REGION 459 WEATHER
What if the Weather is Bad?
The region doesn’t have a message hotline for weather updates. We will utilize the Blue Sombrero website to communicate via email blast and SMS Messaging capabilities. If you DO NOT get an email or text message that your child's game is canceled, then the game is STILL ONE!
All other cancellations are a game time decision by the referee or in the absence of a referee, the coaches. DO NOT utilize Township telephone weather cancellation numbers or Facebook information as these apply to their recreation programs only. If a referee cancels the game at one field of a multiple field location, then all games are cancelled at the location. The weather can change in a very short time. We do NOT cancel games for rain, snow or cold unless the field is unplayable, but that determination cannot be made until game time.
The only type of weather that we cancel games for is lightning and thunder, again, only at the field at game time or after the game has started. If lightning is seen, or thunder is heard, the players, parents and coaches must go to their vehicles and the game should be suspended for 30 minutes. If lightening and / or thunder persist during the 30 minute stoppage the time restarts. 30 minutes must pass without lightning or thunder before a game can be restarted.
If the game is cancelled, before the start of the game or before the end of the first half, field availability permitting, the game will be rescheduled, if the second half was started when it was stopped, then the Regional Commissioner will determine the outcome of the match.
The Coaches should always encourage their players & parents to show up at the field at game time because if one team has enough players and the other team doesn't, the team without enough players will forfeit the game, if it could be played. If there is a referee at the field for your game, they are the only person that can determine field playability. If there is no referee, the coaches must come to an agreement as to playability.
When it gets cold or wet, they are allowed to wear warm clothing under their uniforms, including knit hats and gloves. If they wear a hooded sweatshirt, the hood must be tucked in to the jersey.
