American Youth Soccer Organization Providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.

AYSO has announced important steps to ensure that every AYSO child has the best possible soccer learning experience. Coaches and assistant coaches in every division in every AYSO Region are required to have AYSO’s age-appropriate training, AYSO Safe Haven® and CDC Concussion certification when they take the field. The policy was approved and adopted by the National Board of Directors at their July 2009 meeting and is supported by the National Coaching Advisory Commission.

All coaches must be certified to coach at their team’s age level.  For example, 12U coaches must be certified to the 12U level. This applies to both head and assistant coaches.

AYSO 459 provides coach training and certification courses for levels 6U through 12U.  Higher level training (Intermediate for 14U, Advanced for 18U) is provided outside our region by AYSO Area, Sectional and National programs.  Because all AYSO coach training follows a nationally mandated and standardized curriculum, you can attend any coach training event at any AYSO Region, for all age divisions, and coaches from outside AYSO 459 are welcome to attend our courses. This provides a wide range of options and dates in addition to the training offered within our Region.

The minimum coach certification level by age division is as follows:

6U6UOnline or Classroom
8U8UOnline or Classroom
10U10UOnline or Classroom, and Field

For the field portion, please wear soccer attire and bring plenty of water.

Intermediate Coach (14U) and Advanced (18U) Coach Training courses are not currently offered in AYSO 459, but are offered locally within Area 8C. These courses can be found on the, as outlined in “How to Register for a Training Course”.

Intermediate and Advanced courses are rigorous and require a significant commitment over the course of a long weekend.  Intermediate training is 15 hours, Advanced is 18 hours.

Intermediate Coach certification has a prerequisite of a 12U certificate and the online Pre-Intermediate course, and Advanced Coach certification requires an Intermediate certificate. It is recommended that if you plan to attend the Intermediate or Advanced Coach training that you not only register through AYSOU but also email the designated instructor with your plans to attend.
